Welsh sea anglers were on top form at the recent Home International matches fished at Abererch Beach, near Pwllheli, Gwynedd taking three Team Gold medals. Teams from all four home nations competed in the Men’s, Youth and Junior sections while England, Ireland and Wales fielded teams in the very first Home International Championships for the Ladies Teams. The Championships were fished over two days of competitions on Abererch Beach near Pwllheli. Fishing was tough due to the fantastic weather conditions, with the water calm and crystal clear anglers had to use every ounce of their watercraft and skills to catch fish. The competitions were close each day and the final results went in doubt right down to the last cast. Final Championship results were:
Men
1st Wales 30 points
2nd Ireland 26 points *
3rd England 26 points *
4th Scotland 17 points
* result placings on highest total of zone wins

3rd Ireland 8 points

Wales taking three gold medals and one bronze is the best result in these Championships for more than 17 years for the host nation. The Welsh Federation of Sea Anglers (National Governing Body for sea angling in Wales and Angling Cymru partner) hosted the event with the support of Championship sponsor Tronixpro, Haven, Gwynedd County Council, North Wales Bait Supplies and the many angling volunteers who helped to organise and run the event making it one of the best Home International Championships for years.
