Bass About the Lancashire Coast

by Jordan Russell

lancashire-news-logoAnother great weekend sea fishing along the Lancashire coast, we had a slight change in wind to westerly on Sunday and it seemed to stir it up a bit and also bring a fair few bass in for a couple of days. Daylight fishing has once again been patchy and the night fishing has seen plenty of smoothhounds, rays, bass, dabs, whiting and the odd bull huss. Rag worm and crab seems to be catching the most at the moment fishing on the Gynn Wall at all different ranges.

Fleetwood and District Angling fished their latest match at Five-Bar Gate.

The sea state surprised the anglers as there was an edge to it when the wind was forecast to be off the land. They had to put up with drizzle for most of the match. Twenty-six anglers fished and fifteen caught fish.

After the dire fishing of the last few days in daylight, it was a pleasant surprise to see a few fish. Whiting were the predominant species today but there was a dogfish, a smoothhound, flounder, rockling and seven bass, the best two being 53cm long.

Congratulations to match winner Ian Mawdesley who had a mixed bag of whiting, rockling, dogfish and bass. Dave Hutchinson with twenty minutes to go went from blanking to take runner up spot with two bass. And third place man,Joe Perry fishing his first club match also had the joint longest fish a 53 cm bass.

Crab was possibly the top bait today followed by worm tipped with fish bait.
