Some cracking fish about the Lancashire area at the moment, mainly at low water. There are some nice double figure smoothhounds being landed on crab along with plenty of other species to target. The day fishing at high water has been slightly more difficult and patchy, but having said that still some good hauls of fish for some anglers. As the week progresses the tides start to rise and we also will of had a bit of a strong westerly wind from Tuesday and Wednesday which should stir it up perfect for the coming weekend’s fishing.
Wayne Foreshaw fished solo off the beach at Squires Gate where he picked up a cracking bass weighing in at 11lb and measuring 76cm long. Unfortunately with Wayne being on his own he was unable to get a suitable photo.
Mark Rushton has had some cracking fish over a couple of low water fishing sessions including hounds into double figures.
Fleetwood and District Angling Club fished their latest match at Morecambe. The wind was on the angler’s backs so calm seas and warm temperatures looked perfect for the plaice, a pity the fish did not know that.
The fishing was a bit slow, but there were plaice, flounder and a few thornback ray beached.
All the plaice caught were in size, the largest being 40 cm. The best thornback was caught by Lee Thornton at 55cm across wings followed by David Baylis with one of 54cm.
Black and squid wraps worked for the rays as did crab. Worm seemed to be the best bait for the plaice, and crab for the flounders.
Fifteen anglers fished the match.
