Plenty happening on the Lancashire coast before the weather turned for the worse. Some good sport on the shore with the whiting, good sized ones to 42cm.
The whiting have turned up in their masses with some anglers having 20-30 each on night tides. Still a few dogfish about but not as many as normal.
We also have some thornback ray coming off the Gynn Wall area. The codling haven’t really showed but with the current north east wind that is to be expected. As it swings to the south east this weekend I would expect them to show in numbers but we will have to see.
Fresh and frozen blacks tipped with squid or mackerel have be producing the fish this week.
Day time tides have been very patchy whereas the night tides have produced multiple hits for everyone with the Gynn Wall being the most productive.
Last Sunday there were two boat matches being held, one organised by the Knot End club with Carl Lawton and crew member Nathan Pickering winning first place.

The other match was organised by the Blackpool Boat Angling Club and had a great turn out of 26 boats for the annual RNLI Match.
Organiser Neil Whittle stated “What a great turn out for our winter Cod Open match in aid of the RNLI. Twenty six boats entered what turned out to be a very close match.”
1st £275 Karen 2 W.B.A.C. Pete and Frannie – cod 1.50kg
2nd £165 Mazerflatty B.B.A.C. Jonathan Hall and Chris Nickson – cod 1.49kg
3rd £110 Ninja Jan Louis Van Deventer and Ben Forshaw – cod 1.44kg
The pool £130 for the heaviest whiting, 1st £130 Aquaholic W.B.A.C. Andy and Scott – whiting 0.69kg
A total of £611 was raised for the RNLI so well done to all who made the effort to turn out and participate.
