Skegness Pier Angling Club – Hound hunt

by Chas Tibble

This year’s fantastic smoothound fishing continued in the latest Skegness Pier Angling Club (SPAC) match, held at Drake Road. The hard fighting small sharks turned up mob handed in the last hour of the match, with top Grimsby angler Karl Nangle catching three double figure hounds, two smaller samples and a flounder, to run out easy winner with 51lb 7oz. Wrangle’s Alan Steadman came in second with three hounds for 23lb 6oz and Corby’s Paul Marshall framed again in third place with three hounds weighing 22lb 4oz. Match organiser Chas Tibble had been leading throughout the match with four nice flatties, but in the end had to be content with both the heaviest flat and round fish prizes, for a matching pair of 1lb 2oz flounders. In total there were 19 hounds caught and many others lost, with Karl Nangle beaching the best fish on the day, which tipped the scales at 12lb 8oz.
