Boat series launches

Boats: HCA boat angling section winter league kicked off last Sunday. An excellent turnout took advantage of good conditions, with many boats launching from Wonderland. The search for cod and thornbacks was plagued with lots of whiting well under the 33cm minimum size. But it turned out to be a spirited start to the season, with none of last years top three anglers among the early pacesetters.

Top bags fell to the bigger boats. Marks Briggs was top man with 39lbs 4oz, which included the biggest fish of 8lb 8oz. Glen Jubb was runner up on 34lb, and also had the second heaviest fish of 7lb 8oz. Richard Johnson’s 31lb 13.5 oz third-placed bag contained the third heaviest fish of 7lb 7oz. Peter Spendelow was fourth with 26lb.

The ‘big fish’ competition is this Sunday. With reports of better fish in the Humber, there’s some optimism.

Beach: There have been several cod around 6lb caught, and also good numbers of sizeable whiting. The wall was covered in anglers most nights last week looking for their first cod of the season.

Reckitts SAC kicked off the winter leagues. In the Super league, Danny Frost returned 3.69kg, including the biggest fish – a cod of 3.41kg. Second was Chris Mack with 8 whiting for 2.86kg. With third going to John Windle on 7 flounders for 1.75kg.

In the Premier League, Mike Brockman tallied 2.78kg, John Jacobs 2.13kg and Graham Tranmer 1.74 kg . Thanks to Chris Mack for the results.

Please keep the results, catch reports and photographs coming.
