Despite having to be towed home as a result of a electrical fault, Tim Burgess won this year’s HCA Thornback Open with a fish of 7¼lb. Ollie Call pick up second and third prizes with rays of 5lb 2oz and 4lb 10oz respectively. At time the anglers were cursing the numbers of cod around which is typical in a targeted species event.

This coming Sunday sees the big guns come out to play for the start of the winter league and it will be very interesting first match as the anglers are expected to hone their speed fishing skills by targeting whiting.

Humber SAC were in action last weekend when members fished a rover match along the length of the sea wall. Steve Robinson landed the top weight of 2lb 12oz, next on the list was S. Wilkinson and followed in third by Simon Drayton. This Sunday the club is holding the Millennium Open and the fishing times are from 4.45pm to 8.45pm. Meet at Tioxide gate from 3pm where the entry fee of £15 is payable.

Birse Construction and the Environment Agency are to be congratulated on the excellent work that they have carried out on the Wall. This now provides a fantastic fishing platform, which if looked after by the anglers should provide a brilliant venue for years to come.
