Skegness Pier Angling Club – Xmas Fayre 2015

by Chas Tibble

There was a very close result in the final Skegness Pier Angling Club (SPAC) match of 2015, which was the annual Xmas Fayre event, held at Jacksons Corner. The top four anglers all measured over 6 metres of fish under the catch and release format, with two recounts being required to sort out the final positions. Kettering’s Jim Robinson was the man who came out on top, winning the Carlsberg Trophy with 15 dabs, 11 whiting and a flounder, measuring 662cm in total. Just one fish behind was top match angler Dave Shorthouse, who made the long journey from Stafford worthwhile by taking second place, with a 26 fish mixed bag for 656cm.

Wrangle’s Alan Steadman had gone off like a train at the start of the match, but his catch rate dried up and he eventually had to settle for third place, with 25 fish measuring 629cm. Skegness local Russ Taylor won the longest flatfish prize with a 33cm (1lb) flounder and Corby’s Paul Marshall the longest round fish prize, with a specimen 41cm (1lb 3oz) whiting. After the match a prize presentation was held in the Lookout Pub, where every angler received a prize and all enjoyed a festive buffet.
