Local anglers didn’t get a look in, as the visitors took all the prizes in the latest Skegness Pier Angling Club (SPAC) match held in perfect conditions at Bohemia Point, Sutton on Sea. The much anticipated winter whiting have hit the beaches in style, with top class Grimsby match angler Garry Hutson ending up as runaway winner, catching 25 whiting and 10 dabs measuring 1043cm in total. Garry has a track record of catching over 10 metres of fish in SPAC matches and also took the longest round fish prize with a nice 41cm (1lb 3oz) whiting. Some 4 metres behind in second place was another Grimsby match ace, Karl Nangle, with 17 whiting and 6 dabs for 671cm. Corby’s Paul Marshall framed again in third place, with a similar mixed bag measuring 603cm and to complete the local rout, Kettering’s Jim Robinson took the longest flatfish price with a 29cm (10oz) dab.
With the whiting shoals now feeding onshore, things are looking really good for the next SPAC match, which will be held on Saturday 8th Nov from 4:30 till 8:30pm at Trunch Lane, with SPAC members fishing for the Shipstone Cup. There is also an open section, which non-members are welcome to participate in. For further information please contact SPAC Secretary Chas Tibble on 07984 967988 or chastibble@hotmail.com
