North Norfolk Bass Festival 2013

by David Proudfoot

Over the past couple of years, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of quality bass caught on the North Norfolk Shingle Ridge. Not monster fish, but those in the 40 – 60cm range have been providing local anglers with some excellent sport. Because of this Holt Sea Angling Club has decided to do something slightly different for this coastline and host a Sea Bass Festival this summer on the Shingle Ridge.

The Festival takes place the weekend of May 11th/12th 2013 and will be sponsored by Kelling Heath Holiday Park and supported by Sea Angler Magazine. Holt Sea Angling Club would like to thank these organisations for their help in making this event possible.

The event will comprise of two separate 6-hour matches fished on Saturday 11th May and Sunday 12th May. The venues will be on the North Norfolk Shingle Ridge between Weybourne and Cley but the exact location of each match will not be determined until nearer the event to take advantage of catch information at that time. Similarly, the exact times for each match will not be determined until closer to the date but at this time of year both matches will be in day light.

The entry fee will be £15 for each day with an Optional Pools of £10 for each day. Both matches will be catch & release and fished to SAMF match rules. Prize monies for each match will be for the heaviest bass, heaviest bass bag and heaviest overall bag. There will also be a prize and trophy donated by Kelling Heath Holiday Park for the biggest bass of the festival. Additional prize categories will be added if the prize table allows and there will be a ladies and junior sections if numbers permit. Both matches will be registered for Penn Points prior to the event.

The Head Quarters for the event will be the Kelling Heath Holiday Park and they will be offering a 15% discount on accommodation for those participating. A short break booking will commence on Friday 10th May and finish on Monday 13th May with rates extremely competitive for this time of year. Accommodation comprises of Lodges and a large number of Holiday homes which can accommodate up to six adults. There are plenty of restaurant and bar facilities at the complex as well as a Leisure Centre. There is also plenty of activity in the surrounding woodland and Kelling Heath is renowned for the amenities it provides. We have hosted two National Sea League Finals from this location and all have been impressed with the facilities and the general atmosphere.

This is an ideal place to bring your family, partner, etc for a short break at the start of the summer. They can enjoy the surrounding facilities whilst you can enjoy your sport or alternatively they can join you on the beach that is just 2 to 3 miles away.
