The previously postoned Baitbox Big Cod Match out of Grimsby is on for this Sunday.
One of the organisers, Tony Hogg, says; “It looks like the forecasters are all reading the same chart with the low pressure sitting in the middle of us for Sunday, although might be a bit misty. Match starts 10.30am through to 6pm.
Time for a good breakfast before the start & the Jubilee Cafe on the Fish Dock are opening at 7am until 9-ish for all the Marina crowd. The Sizzle Sisters will be at the weigh-in when the match finishes in the Marina with hot food from the burger van.
Looking forward to a good day, although the fishing may be a bit slow, with 250 anglers fishing from 98 boats (48 beach boats and 50 dock based boats) we expect to see a fair few cod at the weigh-in. Don’t forget that cod bought to the scales have to be with the guts in, if you want to just donate cod or whiting for the RNLI charity, please gut these fish. We will be looking for the usual volunteers to help gut the prize winning cod, so don’t forget your knives.
We have had some issues with Pier launch site, with the side ramp that leads to the HCA beach parking area in front of the Beach Café, being totally unusable but Glen Hughes has been talking to the Council and thankfully we now have a side ramp for getting on and off the beach. It is a temporary construction of concrete sandbags which will do for the match and we also have Wonderland access.
The Marina will be very full with the AGM being on the same day and a function on the Saturday night, so parking on the Sunday morning could be very difficult unless Ben the Berth master allocates us any more space.
The best of luck to you all, if any body needs any advise of where to go, please let me know on 07949 836418 or tonyhoggwash@gmail.com.”
