Weather Hits Fylde Coast Sea angling

Despite the poor weather which has restricted fishing around the Fylde coast there are excellent fish showing up on occasion.

Craig Thompson landed an excellent 8lb cod from the Sea Cadets mark last Tuesday night.

Fleetwood and District Angling Club battled against the elements as they fished a match at the Ferry beach. Rain and strong winds left the competing anglers sandblasted. The fishing matched the weather with only ten fishing the event and six landing scoring fish.

Peter Lambert was a clear winner fishing the end peg near the Lifeboat Pen. Peter was the only angler using creeper, harbour ragworm or maddies, for bait.

lancashire latest news logoThe majority of the catch consisted of small codling, the largest being 33cm caught by Hughie Porter. A few tiny flounder also showed up.

Leyland and District Sea Angling Club fished their latest match last Sunday at the Mariner’s Warf. First place went to Alan Smith with 446cm, runner-up was Martin Darwin and Alan Slater finished third. Martin had the longest fish, a 31cm whiting. The raffle was won by Paul Jordan. Species landed were codling, whiting and dabs with most falling to black lug.
