Lancashire Sea Anglers Fundraising For RNLI

by Jordan Russell

lancashire latest news logoBispham Angling and the Lancashire Sea fishing group ran their annual Christmas match the other week. A great turnout of 64 anglers who, thanks to the tremendous support from the prize-list sponsors, raised a fantastic £675 for the RNLI. A kind donation of £100 from Sally Hughes at Wyreside Lakes Fishery further boasted the lifeboat funds.

Nothing fantastic to report fish wise but dabs, whiting and flounder provide sport throughout the match.

First place went to Kristian Leslie who absolutely smashed it with 27 fish measuring 556cm and winning £152. In second spot was Colin Blackburn who caught 20 fish measuring 480cm and winning £106.75. Christopher Russon followed in third with 21 fish measuring 427cm and winning £45.75.

The £20 gift voucher for the longest fish went to Ade Hemming for his 35cm flounder. Top lady was Lesley Maby who picked up a £10 voucher.

First place in the Juniors category went to Nick Mclintic followed by Lewis Green and Evie Smith, all of whom won gift vouchers.

These matches just grow and grow and the organisers would like to thank all who helped out and supported the event including the team of diggers, Joe Green, Kyle King, Deborah Russell and Nan.

Fleetwood and District Angling Club fished a match last Sunday at 5-Bar Gate, Cleveleys. They enjoyed a sunny but chilly wind free day while fishing into the dark.

Fishing was a bit slow for most anglers, but Ray Rodger and Peter Lambert managed to find a few fish. Ray was the clear winner with 13 fish. Almost all the fish landed were whiting just the odd dab and worm tipped with sandeel or mackerel seemed to do the trick.
