Humberside/Lincolnshire/Yorkshire report

Karl lights up Blackpool

Plenty of activity on the Humber Bank wall, especially around the woods area where a number of decent cod have been landed. Biggest cod reported went 7 ½ lb. Tip worm baits with fish strip for whiting. Worm tipped squid also effective and offers a better chance of cod. East Halton popular with cod anglers – fish taken across various stages of the tide.

Shore reports: Grimsby-based Karl Nangle took top honours last Sunday at Blackpool with a mixed bag of bass, dogfish, dabs and whiting totalling 360cms. Shane Russell finished second.

The North Wall match organised by Cleethorpes angler John Atkinson proved fantastic. And it was John who claimed top spot with 30 whiting and a flounder for 19lb 14.5oz. Second Hull’s Chris Mack was next on 25 whiting for, with16lb 3oz giving third. Fourth placed Dave Over’s 12lb 4.5oz bag contained both the 44cm codling as biggest round fish, and a 37cm sole as the biggest flat.

Charlie Tibble reports on the last Skegness match: Fish were again at a premium in the latest Skegness Pier Angling Club match at North Shore Road, with anglers struggling to catch in the bright sunshine and flat calm sea. Wrangle’s Alan Steadman followed up his recent success in the Mixed Pairs with a win on this occasion, catching 2 dabs, a whiting and a flounder totalling 2lb 7oz. He also took the heaviest flatfish prize with the flounder, which tipped the scales at 1lb 10oz and puts Alan in line for a specimen fish award. Skegness local Wayne Sumner returned to the match scene after a long absence, to take second place with 5 dabs and a small weever for 1lb 15.5oz. Croxton’s Dave Burr filled the frame in third, catching 3 dabs and 2 small whiting for 1lb 2.5oz. Dave’s biggest whiting only weighed 2oz, but added to his winnings by taking the heaviest round fish award.

The next S.P.A.C. match will be held on Sunday 26 Oct from 1:30 to 5:30 pm at Wolla Bank, Chapel, for the Hewison Cup. Large shoals of whiting are already showing in the Humber and given the right conditions, should increase the catches from local beaches shortly. For further information about S.P.A.C. activities, contact Club Secretary Chas Tibble on 07984 967988.’

Boats: Wind has prevented concerted boat activity. The HCA match was also called off last weekend due to strong winds. Lets hope that this weekend brings some better weather and anglers can get afloat.
