Financial climate blamed for loss of Cod Champs sponsorship
The biggest boat competition in the north has lost its lead sponsor. M&J Wilson who backed the Humber Cruising Association Cod Championships in previous years, cite the current financial climate as the reason for the withdrawal of assistance. HCA thank M&J Wilson for their excellent support over the past two years and now seek new sponsorship for the event which takes place in April 2010. HCA are guaranteeing the first prize and will also provide part of the prize table. Last year over 200 anglers from all over the UK took part.
Humber SAC are running a match on the sea wall at Suggitis lane fishing this weekend. There’s £100 first prize guaranteed, and times are 11am to 3pm meeting at Suggitis lane. Further information from Georges tackle box.
Humber SAC were in action last weekend on Courtaulds straight. Richard Leek took top honours with 3lb 3 ½ oz, beating Gainsborough ace Simon Drayton by just a ¼ ounce. Third was local Steve Mc Gregor , while Liam Ainsworth took the junior prize.
Skegness Pier Angling Club by Chas Tibble
Skegness Pier Angling Club (S.P.A.C.) ran out easy winners in an 11-a-side Inter-Club match versus Kettering Midland Band Sea Angling Club (K.M.B.S.A.C.), held from Drake Road. Unfortunately the venue was out of sorts, with only 8 anglers managing to weigh in, but with 6 of them S.P.A.C. members, the local club won by a clear 70 points.
Wrangle’s Paul Cridland won the individual event with 3 fish weighing 1lb 15oz and also took the heaviest flatfish prize with a 1lb flounder. Kettering-based junior angler, Josh Shorthouse fished for S.P.A.C. and took second place with a 2 fish catch for 1lb 9oz. Friskney’s Mark Holmes fished for K.M.B.S.A.C. to even the sides up and finished third with another 2 fish catch weighing 1lb 1oz. Croxton’s Dave Burr continued his recent run of good form to win the heaviest round fish award with an 11oz school bass.
Next S.P.A.C. match will be held on Saturday 19 Sep from 5 till 9pm at North Shore Road, with Club members fishing for the Dave White Cup. There is also an open section, which non-S.P.A.C. members are welcome to participate in. For further information contact S.P.A.C. Secretary Chas Tibble on 07984 967988 or chastibble@hotmail.com
