Visiting anglers took all the prizes in the latest Skegness Pier Angling Club (S.P.A.C.) match held at Jackson’s Corner, Ingoldmells. Top Grimsby match angler Karl Nangle won the match with a last cast flounder which, added to one he caught earlier, gave him a total weight of 1lb 9oz. Corby’s Paul Marshall caught four smaller fish to take second place with 1lb 6¾oz and also won the Derby Miners Cup by default, as Karl isn’t a Club member. Close behind in third place with 1lb 6oz was another skilled Grimsby match angler, Garry Hutson, who also won the heaviest round fish prize with a 1lb 3oz bass. Ex-RAF team angler Mick Wiggans travelled up from Norfolk to fish and took the heaviest flatfish award with a specimen 1lb 2oz flounder.
20 Club members are participating in an inaugural S.P.A.C. knockout competition this year, run in conjunction with the match programme. Wrangle’s Alan Steadman was the first angler to progress to the second round, catching a tiny 14oz smoothound to beat Skegness local Wayne Sumner’s two flatfish by 3oz.
The next club match will be held on Sunday 24th April from 8:30am till 12:30pm at North Shore Road, with Club members fishing for the Stan Marvin Cup.
