Result: Scottish Light Line Championship 2009

by David Proudfoot

Scotland international boat angler Derek Yuille won the Scottish Light Line Championship for the second year running. Fresh from team victory in the Home International Boat Championships, the Halkirk-based rod notched a total of 97 points to finish ahead of Inverness anglers Gus Mackenzie and Willie Orrack who both recorded boat wins.

Daiwa sponsored the event with 15lb Sensor monofilament line which proved excellent and handled the rugged fishing with ease. All boats worked the Dunnet side of the venue where pollack and cod proved prevalent.

Derek was fishless after the first hour when few fish were taken off the face of Dunnet in a strong run of tide. But a move round to Brough Bay brought a change in fortune as pollack switched on and he caught steadily until the finishing hooter.

Derek teamed up with Peter Redshaw to take the pairs title, while a 3.46 kilo ling earned Gus Mackenzie the heaviest fish monies.

Individual results:

1st Derek Yuille 100% (97 pts)
2nd Gus Mackenzie 100% (80 pts)
3rd Willie Orrack 100% (57 pts)

Pairs:

1st Derek Yuille & Peter Redshaw

Heaviest Fish:

Gus Mackenzie – 3.46 kg ling
