North of the Tyne Tony Taylor won a Newbiggin match with seven cod for a total bag of 14¾lb, taken from Whitehouse Sands, and Mick Burns had the best cod of 6lb 6oz. Dave Cruddas won a Seaton Sluice match with nine cod totalling 13lb 5oz from Hadston; Chris Guthrie had the best fish, again at 6lb 6oz. Peter Smith also fished Hadston to win a Blyth match with eight cod for 14lb 5oz. James Patterson had a session at Blyth beach taking five cod weighing 17lb, including one of 6lb, then had four for 14lb the following night. Blyth beach produced eight cod weighing 11¾lb for Geoff King to win a Northumberland Sea League match. Kevin Moffat took two cod for a bag of 3lb 5oz from Whitley Bay to win an S.B.R.A.A.C. Match. Few cod showed for the last Tynemouth Sunday match, which was won by Glen Campbell with seven whiting, a dab, and a flounder weighing 4lb 6oz. John Clough had the heaviest fish with a typical Tyne cod of 1lb 9oz.

Darren Browne won an Alberta S.A.C. match at Roker pier with 25 fish totalling 19lb 11oz; including the heaviest fish at 3lb 3oz. Norman Spour only needed three cod weighing 3lb 3oz taken from Whitburn to win a Cleadon A.C. Match.

The Ryhope Sunday match saw most of their cod taken from the Tyne with 30 out of 61 weighing in. Chris Hossack had two cod from the Tyne for 2.80kg, with one making 2.19kg, Paul Hossack had three cod and two whiting totalling 2.10kg, Anthony Lawther had five weighing 1.70kg including the heaviest flatfish of 0.54kg, and top junior Matthew Winn had a good day taking five for a total weight of 1.59kg from The Tyne.

South of the Tees, a St. Mary’s rover match saw Terry Dalton win with four cod weighing 11lb 2oz, including a fish of 4¼lb, taken from Port Mulgrave beating his son Darren into second place with three cod for 6lb 13oz from the same mark. Settled conditions saw only one weigh in for a Saltburn match won by Bernard Westgarth with three rockling for an ounce over the pound mark.

Sunday October 28th sees the South Shields Open with fishing from 11am until 4pm. Basic entry is £10 plus pools and team events, and registration is at the New Crown Hotel, Coast Road, South Shields from 8am until 10.30am. First prize for the heaviest fish is £600, heaviest bag £300, heaviest flatfish £50, top lady £50, top junior £25 plus tackle, and a prize table of over £2000. Selected local tackle shops will sell tickets prior to fishing.
