Skegness Pier Angling Club v. Humber Sea Angling Club 2013

by Chas Tibble

Humber Sea Angling Club (HSAC) was again victorious in the Inter-Club match versus Skegness Pier Angling Club (SPAC), which this year was held at Wolla Bank, Chapel. The annual event between the two long established Clubs was resurrected two years ago after a break of over 40 years and HSAC have been winners both times. On this occasion the match was extremely close, with SPAC averaging 14½oz per angler and HSAC averaging 14¾oz per angler!

Individually, Croxton’s Dave Burr was again on top form for SPAC, winning his third match on the trot with 2 bass and a nice silver eel weighing in at 2lb 14oz. He also won the heaviest round fish prize with his larger bass, which tipped the scales at 1lb 12oz. Not far behind in second place was HSAC angler Simon Springhall, who caught 2 bass and a flounder for 2lb 9½oz. Another man in top form is Kettering’s Bob Foster, who despite losing a match winning bass in the surf, still managed to take third place with 3 flounders, a small turbot and a silver eel for a total weight of just over 2lb. Grimsby ace Karl Nangle fished for SPAC and took the heaviest flatfish prize with a plump 1lb 4oz flounder.

The prize presentation took place at the match venue, with Chas Tibble presenting the Inter-Club Shield to HSAC Match Organiser Adie Cooper. The match has now become an annual feature of both Clubs’ match programmes, with next year’s event to take place at a venue in the Humber area.
