Humberside/Lincolnshire/Yorkshire report

First Nod of Cod

Dropping temperatures signalled a few codling from the beaches. Mick Smith from Humber SAC landed a 45cm fish in the big fish match, while Mick also claimed a prize for the club’s first cod of the season. Better whiting also showing but a high volume of nuisance pin whiting accosting baits. Try rigging a small whiting live bait for any bigger predatory cod.

Word of cod is spreading and local tackle shops are seeing an increase in business. Bait is not overly abundant, so be sure and order well in advance of fishing to avoid disappointment.

A contingent of top local anglers travelled to the Welsh coast last weekend, but fishing proved a struggle. Many anglers toiled for fish both days, but Neville Charlesworth fished well, coming third over the two days, behind winner Bob Gascoigne and runner up Julian Shambrook.

Bad weather cancelled last weekend’s boat match, which has been rescheduled for this Sunday, kick off at 7am. It is a good tide and the forecast look favourable with light South Westerly winds. There should be mixture of fish about, with codling and whiting certainly on the menu.

If you have any pictures of good catches please forward these and some brief catch details either directly to Planet Sea Fishing or to me.
