The fishing is variable on the Lancashire coast but as soon as there is a break in the weather there are fish to be caught especially from the boats.
Last Saturday Jonathon Hall and Neil Whittle from Blackpool Boat Angling Club fished with two other boats over local wrecks. They enjoyed a great trip despite a lumpy sea at the start. The day improved with near perfect seas on the way home. A considerable number of species were caught during the day. Tub gurnards were plentiful, whiting, some good sized pouting, the biggest been close to 2lb, and some mackerel perfect for the table. Pollack to eight pounds were landed on Sidewinder Shimmer Eels from Bispham Angling. Scad and cod also added to the catch list. The lads had to move around a few wrecks to find fish and avoid charter boats but enjoyed great sport.
Mark Yule and Brian Fletcher from Wyre Boat Club headed in to Morecambe Bay last Friday and had success catching bass to 6lb on light tackle.
Fylde Boat Angling Club member Bryn Bimpson had an early start as eight boats helped each other launch over the soft sand at the end of the slip. Using a bit of frozen black and fresh caught mackerel they had whiting, dabs, plaice, pouting, rays, tope, smoothhound and an excellent bull huss of 12lb.
