Last Oban Skate Trip Of The Year

by David Proudfoot

An enjoyable annual mid-holiday trip out of Oban aboard the Laura Dawn II skippered by the excellent Leigh Taylor. Despite a dodgy forecast the wind and the majority of the rain missed us as we spent the day at anchor between Kerrera and Mull.

A total of 11 skate were landed with the best of 199lb falling to Iain Riddle and Andy Scullion not far behind with one of 182lb. Scott Gibson did his usual powerhouse fishing to finish the day with three skate.

I spent the most of time trying to pick up a black-mouthed dogfish but could not avoid the spurs and it was up to Leigh to show how it was done with two good specimens.

Laura Dawn II is well set up for skate and general fishing with all the gear aboard should the anglers not have their own heavy tackle. Leigh can be contacted via Facebook or by phone on 07548 684978.
