There’s life in the river
Boats: Many local boat anglers neglect to fish the river in the summer, thinking it a waste of time and effort. However, a change of tactics/baits can unearth a surprising array of species, with good fish among them.
Tim Burgess and Tony Hogg had a brilliant bass session out on the Binks using ragworms. This is not an area for the inexperienced or faint-hearted, as the sandbanks can throw up a lot of surf.
My son and I also went out in the boat. We each had a good thornback ray from the 5A mark among flounders and whiting.
Shore: Neville Charlesworth won the final of the NFSA beach series. Bob Gascoigne was second, with Richard Leek third. Neville also took the pairs title with Simon Drayton, and added the mystery pairs with Garry Hutson.
Jez Waters travels to the Guernsey final as Neville Charlesworth is unable to attend. Series sponsorship was courtesy of Bob at the Angling Centre. £300 was also raised for the Leukaemia charity. And thanks to East Coast tackle, A&D tackle, Top Shop and Cleethorpes Angling Centre for donating prizes
NFSA: Stuart McPherson from the NFSA spoke at last week’s boat club meeting. Members were told of governing body and wider developments, and it is hoped that the NFSA can strengthen locally. Among other points of interest, we were told of back door moves to introduce the sea rod licence. We are universally opposed to a licence and will vehemently contest plans to bring such about.
On a personal note, my good friend and fishing partner for several years Mick Crawforth, has been ill and has just undergone a big operation. Mick remains in hospital in Scarborough. I wish him all the best and a quick recovery.
