Sussex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (Sussex IFCA) intends to apply to the Minister for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for confirmation of the Marine Protected Area (MPA) Byelaw and the associated Kingmere Marine Conservation Zone (MCZ) Regulatory Notice.
The Notice will, if approved, apply conditions affecting both commercial and recreational fishing in the Kingsmere area in particular affecting fishing for black bream.
The provisions which affect sea angling are as follows –
a) Angling is prohibited :
(i) in zone 1 from 1st April to 30th June
b) Whilst fishing in zone 1 from 1st July to 31st March and in zones 2, 3, and 4 all year round it is prohibited for any person to:
(i) retain more than 4 bream during any one day;Â possess any parts of bream other than whole or gutted fish;
(iii) retain any live bream in any container, keep net or receptacle;
(iv) transfer of any bream, dead or alive between vessels;
(v) return any dead bream to the fishery;
(vi) use any bream as bait; and for the vessel master to retain on a vessel a number of bream which is more than 4 times the number of persons fishing on the vessel.
