Tracey Scores At Sandilands

Skegness Pier Angling Club Match 18 – The Dutton Trophy

by Paul Coulthurst

The Dutton Trophy was fished at Sandilands on Sunday 25th August. The match venue had been moved from Trunch Lane due to the busy bank holiday crowds making fishing impossible, on the popular beach. Sandilands was still busy with walkers but it was very fishable with minimal weed present, a flat calm sea and a large 7 metre tide.

The fishing was extremely slow with a handful of weevers caught by several anglers first cast then nothing whatsoever for the next two hours. One hound was recorded along with a few flounders and an eel. During the entire match a total of eight fish were caught and six anglers blanked.

Tracey Cooper-Adams fished a selection of pristine fresh baits on a two up one down, loop rig. Casting to around 70 yards she picked up a schoolie bass. Then as no more bites developed at this range she dropped back in at 30 yards and picked up a flounder, then staying at this range added a 49cm eel to her tally. Her best bait was fresh black lug tipped with maddies. This gave her the lead for most of the match. This time the hounds didn’t turn up and spoil it for Tracey and she maintained her lead to win the match with 94cm. A great result for Tracey, beating a field of extremely talented match anglers on a hard day on the Lincolnshire coast – very well done Tracey.

Simon Drayton was second with a nice hound of 81cm, caught at long range to fresh crab late in the match, which also picked up the longest round fish pool.

England international George Smith finished in third place with a nice flounder and an eel winning the longest flat pools for a 29cm flounder.

Thank you to Adie for pegging out the match, to Russ for running it on the day and to all those travelling down from Grimsby to fish with us today.

The next match is planned for the 8th September at Wolla bank and we look forward to seeing you all then.
