After a run of fishless, abandoned and cancelled matches caused by the recent bad weather, the tide appears to have turned in the latest two Skegness Pier Angling Club (S.P.A.C.) matches. In Match 7 held at Winthorpe Avenue, Kettering’s Jim Robinson needed just a single 3½oz flounder to sweep the prize table, with the remainder of the field blanking. Then Match 8 at Moggs Eye saw a ding-dong battle for first place between top local lady angler Helen Bradley and match organiser Chas Tibble.
Both anglers targeted small flatfish at close range, with Chas edging top place with nine flounders weighing a level 2lb. Just one more fish would have reversed the result for Helen, whose six flounders and a small brill tipped the scales at 1lb 12½oz. After a very slow start to the match by his standards, Croxton’s Dave Burr came good late on to take third place with two fish for 1lb 8oz. He also won the heaviest round fish prize with his 1lb 4oz bass. Skegness local Dave Bradley was soundly beaten by his daughter again, but salvaged a bit of pride by taking the heaviest flatfish award with a 10oz flounder.
