NAC Match Report 10th Summer League 1st May 2023 Kelling

nac-logoThis is the one where we had seven visitors from Scotland, and Pond Pete’s Dad joined us on the beach at Kelling

We knew it was going to be a special evening as the north Norfolk weather decided to be kind to us, which made a change from last week’s gales and tides.

As everyone started to meet by the drive way at Muckelburgh we had to make room for two mini-buses heralding the arrival of Gregor and John, with team. Followed by Pond Pete and Dad (Maurice) in addition to the ever growing NAC members.

setting up at kellingThe Pond Pete videos have brought Norfolk Angling Club to the attention of other clubs and as such it was a pleasure to see the lads from Scotland pay us a visit for a spot of training ahead of a couple of competitions on the Norfolk coast.

The Match

With the match designated as a “pairs” match 18 pegs were drawn with double pegs, with excellent spacing by Neil and with the sun creating a holiday atmosphere 35 anglers cast out.

Last week we had big breakers, this week like a mill pond with very little tide. High tide had been at 16:56 all it all in looked good for a few decent dogfish and smoothhounds. Would we beat our one fish per angler ratio from last week?

Darkness fallsPleased to report we did achieve a bigger average with over three fish per angler. Lots of small stuff but in the total of 116 fish carded – it included 83 dabs / whiting, three codling, see photo of Duane’s – always one for being in the media, Luke’s missed out on a photograph, plus 13 dogfish, eight smoothies, and 11 pout.

A good night check out the stats and the photos. Great to see the Childerhouse family in the top five and a cracking performance from Luke with a 356 overall points score.

We hope the lads from Scotland enjoyed it, and that they do well in their follow on competitions. No doubt see them on the beach soon. Best of luck to all the NAC anglers fishing the Bass Festival – and see you again at Kelling soon.
