259 anglers in 120 boats fished the Baitbox Big Cod Open last weekend as the UK’s biggest boat competition finally beat the weather.
Catches were slightly down on last year but it still needed a cod of 6½lb to get a top forty place.
The winner, Alan Jones, picked up £1500 for his excellent cod of 12lb 5oz and runner-up Rob Skellhorne had a fish of 11lb 3½oz that was worth £800 to him. Third place was shared by Dave Haile and Steve Ackroyd with cod of 10¾lb. The full results can be downloaded here.
The fish landed during the comp was sold at market and the local RNLI branch will benefit to the tune of £1200 from this, and other fund raising events organised by the Humber Cruising Association Boat Fishing Club.
