The HCA Fishing Club are running the Humber Cod Open on the 28th February this year, this popular small boat and charter boat event is well established and attracts anglers from all over the UK with an entry of over 200 anglers expected.
Rigs and bait are straight forward, and from personal experience large squid baits are the most effective in find the big cod.
The prize list is extensive with a minimum first prize of £1000 for the heaviest cod and a total payout of at least £2000. In addition, all the cod weighed in are sold by the organisers and donated to charity, this year they are supporting the Humberston Hydrotherapy Pool Appeal.
The organisers take safe seriously and each boat must carry a minimum package of safety equipment that is detailed on the entry form.
Launching of boats that are not permanently moored in the marina will take place on Cleethorpes beach and a tractor is available to assist with launch and recovery.
The fishing boundaries, out with the shipping channel, will be detailed on a chart that will be supplied to all boat skippers.
Further details can be found on the entry form or on the Humber Cruising Association Fishing Club website and the closing date for entries is the 14th February 2016.
