Guides – The loops on a rod through which the line runs. Also known as rod rings. The design and materials of construction vary according to the purpose of the rod and can have a marked effect on casting distance. On a fixed spool rod fewer guides are required than for a multiplier rod as the line flows beneath the rod away from the blank.
