Competition

by David Proudfoot

Competition – An event where anglers compete against their peers for trophies or prizes. Also widely known as a match. Open matches can be fished by anyone whereas closed events are normally limited by membership. There are two main types of shore competitions; rovers, where the anglers chose their own fishing stance and pegged match in which the location is fixed and the stance or peg selected by a draw. Boat match may be on charter boats or fished from the anglers’ own boat. Most competitions these days are fished on a catch and release basis but there are still some which require a weigh-in either for the heaviest bag or heaviest single fish.
