Nylon monofilament – A single strand of nylon used both as main line and for producing traces and rigs. Also known simply as mono or nylon.

Nuisance fish – Any fish which is not the target species.

Non-return slide – a wire boom which is designed only to move in one direction when line is under tension. Used for sliding baits.

Neap tides – The tides that occur around the time of the moon’s quarters when the effect of the gravitational pull is least. The opposite of spring tides.
