A very prolific week in the main this week on the Lancashire coast. The sea fishing has been good most days especially the tides in darkness. There are plenty of small fish around such as dogfish, whiting, dabs and flounders with the odd bass and codling. There were a couple of days that didn’t fish well for some reason but as a whole not a bad week.
Tom Kay fished a low water session at Rossall the other evening. After a few whiting he bumped in to a 68cm 7lb cod on freshly pumped black.
Pier member Peter Gates enjoyed another great day on the pier today. Dozens of fat dabs, loads of whiting and dogfish. Lovely sunny day, flat sea and no wind.
Fleetwood and District Angling Club fished their latest match last Sunday and what a difference twenty four hours makes.
Saturday, westerly wind, overcast and still mild. Quite a lot of fish about at Beach Road and Dronsfield Road. Today for their Blind Pairs club match cold, northerly wind and blue skies and a lack of fish.
The match was fished by twenty-two anglers, not bad considering a few were at a match at Silloth today, and a lot of members fished the Martin Green Memorial match yesterday.
Fishing was very slow, with mostly small whiting, the odd rockling and flounder. Most baits were coming back as good as they went out.
Best individual catch was Neil Porter with three whiting and two rockling.
Out of the eleven pairs nine posted a score.
1st Neil Porter and Mark Broadhurst 36 points wins £50 each
2nd Hughie Porter and Ray Rodger 25 points wins £30 each
3rd Dave Norton and Mike Owen 24 points
4th Peter Lambert and Phil Lamb 15 points
5th = Jim Gross and Tony Heaven and John Hill and Trevor Barnett 8 points
6th = Bob Egan and Dave Wilson and Dave Stockton and Tim Wrigley 4 points
7th Ian Hewitt and Kevin Blundell 2 points.
The next match is on Sunday 28th November at Point Bays with fishing from 4pm to 7 pm
Leyland and District Sea Angling Club also fished last Sunday with their match at Greenodd, Cumbria.
1st Norman Pilkington with 4 flounders scoring 56 points
2nd Peter Pilkington also with 4 flounders scoring 54 points
3rd Fred Howard with 2 flounders
4th Alan Smith with 1 flounder.
The biggest fish prize goes jointly to Fred & Alan for their 40cm flounders. The golden peg card for £10 was won by Brian Nixon. They had the weather but sadly not too many fish. Thanks again everyone.
