Humberside/Lincolnshire/Yorkshire report 09/08

by David Proudfoot

I had the privilege last week to go out with Peter Spendlow on his boat, Sandoz, in search for the tope off the Lincolnshire coast.

Heading out passed Donna Nook we stopped for mackerel and after an intense search enough of this top bait were landed for a tope session. Within minutes of the bait hitting the sea bed Peter had the reel screaming, a short battle followed which resulted in a fish of around thirty pound not a bad start

After a period of watching Peter get all the action my Spro Up-tider bent into a good fish which was weighed at 54lb before being released. After a few more fish around the 40lb mark Peter latched on to the fish of the day; a magnificent 70lb specimen.

A hectic day finished with six tope weighed and released and a further twelve runs. An excellent day given the scarcity of fresh mackerel.

Humber SAC were in action last weekend  Adie Cooper was back on wining ways taking  first place with five fish for 3lb 14½ oz. Next was S. Wilkinson with six fish for 3lb 12¼ oz and club Chairman Nigel Crabtree was third with three fish for 1lb 8oz.

There has been plenty of action on the Lincolnshire beaches with smoothhounds Nathan Milne went for a short session and had his personal best a nice fish 17lb 6oz. Hounds have been coming on squid so crab is not always needed.
