Disappointing Fishing At The Lincolnshire Pairs

by Chas Tibble

The fishing was abysmal in the Skegness Pier Angling Club (SPAC) annual Lincolnshire Pairs match, held last Saturday from out of sorts Trunch Lane. With the entry well down due to clashing with other open matches, only 5 pairs turned up to fish this once popular event, which was a real struggle from start to finish.

Only one pair managed to both card fish, with Gordon Hewitt catching a 24cm bass to finish second in Zone A and Matt Brewer winning Zone B with a bass and a flounder for 57cm. So Gordon and Matt ran out easy winners of the Lincolnshire Pairs trophies, with 3 points. A big “well done” to them both!

“Angler not a dangler” Bob Foster has been fishing really well of late and fished brilliantly in difficult conditions on this occasion, catching two bass and two flounders at close range for 126cm. He also won the longest round fish prize with a 37cm bass and the longest flatfish prize with a 32cm flounder. Unfortunately his pairs partner, big caster and top class match angler Dave Shorthouse, failed to catch. But Bob’s efforts were good enough for them to take second place in the Pairs with 6 points.
