Channel Islands mullet record smashed by kayak angler

An 8lb 7oz thick-lipped mullet caught by Alderney specialist Dick Smith looks certain to be ratified as a new Channel Islands boat record for the species. Dick was fishing an inshore mark on his kayak and crowned an excellent session with the record-breaker which beats the previous best caught in December 2005 by more than 2lbs. The big fish scrapped all the way to the net after accepting a float-fished bread bait in just 5 feet of water.
