Sea Angling in Orkney 1968 Part 2

The first common skate ever landed on rod and line in the Orkney Islands. Les Moncrieff landed three and I matched that. Apologies for the bad gaffing by non-angler Julian Strange. [This was 1968!] I gaffed the fish in the wing to minimise damage to the skate. Nowadays ALL skate, if hooked, should be measured carefully, tagged if possible, and released quickly. I haven’t targeted common skate for 30 years now. Lots more fish in the sea. Tight Lines. Mike Shepley
