As a driver of a desk from Monday to Friday a day at sea can often stretch muscles I rarely use. As I sit and write this my back and shoulders are stiffening to an extent that tells me yesterday was a truly remarkable day’s sport! So here’s how a terrific day afloat from Weymouth unfolded as we found the blonde ray.

I always think fishing is a bit of a roller coaster ride with good days and tough days with just enough encouragement on the tough days to keep you coming back. Then there are days like the 7th June 2014 out of Weymouth on Atlanta when it all falls in to place at once.
t was in early June last year, having spent 4 months trying to move house, that Steve Parker looked at his wife, Karan and said “You know what, I like this house so let’s go on holiday instead”.
The end of July had arrived and it was time for the sixth annual Parker family outing on Dave Pitman’s Atlanta out of Weymouth. The weather was sultry and overcast and the three week heat wave we had enjoyed was imminently about to break.
If January and February were about variety and chopping and changing tactics to deliver a day’s sport then March is the exact opposite. Today we had one “all or nothing” plan which Dave Pitman, skipper of Atlanta out of Weymouth, executed to perfection.

Being in the fortunate position of having a day’s holiday to use before the end of the year I decided that a trip out on the Supanova with Lyle Stantiford was too good to miss.
Among other things Weymouth is rightly famous for bassing in the Portland Race and great big flatfish from the Shambles Bank. Steve Parker visits both of these fabled fishing grounds…
