Tough Going For Lancashire Match Anglers

by Jordan Russell

lancashire latest news logoWind, rain and weed made conditions tough for Lancashire shore match anglers last week but anglers still managed to find fish when condtions improved.

Fleetwood and District Angling Club fished their latest match last Sunday evening on the point at Rossall. They found it uncomfortable and hard going with heavy rain and strong winds which resulted in only eight fishing.

The conditions were worsened by the amount of loose stringy weed floating about. Trying to hold bottom for any length of time was hard work.

Dave Norton, fishing in the bay to the south of the point, found four bass to win with 80 points. Second place went to Ken Forrest who had a bass and an eel scoring 35 points. A single bass was enough for third placed Hughie Porter and a tope pup secured fourth for Ian Maudesley.

Hopefully the Gynn Wall will be more pleasant to fish next week.

Guy Shaw fished the beach at South Shore and landed a cracking bull huss. Guy took the fish on a big mackerel bait.

Blackpool Sea Angling Federation fished their seventh match of the league at Fleetwood Channel. The club fished the first of the ebb from 9:30 to 12:30 with high water at 8:20.

Fishing was disappointing with only three anglers managing to weigh in, although most anglers caught a number of undersized fish.

The match was won by Ian Hewitt with two eels for 40 points. Second place went to Jim Gross with an eel and a flounder for 34 points and third placed Bob Scullion had a single flounder for 7 points.

The largest fish was a flounder of 36cm caught by Jim Gross.
