Good News For Bass Anglers

The European Union have accepted advice from ICES, the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea, that mortality rates for bass from recreational anglers are lower than previous evidence indicated. In addition, testing nd surveys have shown a higher level of recovery from catch and release practices than estimated.

Accordingly, from the 1st October to 31st December 2018, recreational sea anglers can retain one bass per day, over the minimum conservation reference size of 42cm.

The amendment to the Regulation was published in the EU Journal on 28th September and this officially confirms the lifting of the total ban on keeping bass will come into force on the 1st October 2018.
