Skegness Pier Angling Club – February 2014

by Chas Tibble

Poor catches were again the order of the day in the latest Skegness Pier Angling Club (SPAC) match, held in ideal conditions at Chapel Point. Skegness local Dave Bradley caught a pair of matching dabs to win the Healey Cup with a meagre 14oz. He also took a half share of the heaviest flatfish prize, with either one of his 7oz fish. Stafford’s Dave Shorthouse had led for a long time with two small dabs and a tiny whiting, but in the end had to settle for second place with 12¾oz. Dave also won the heaviest round fish prize with his 2¾oz whiting. Alan Steadman was the other angler sharing the heaviest flatfish prize, also taking third place with his 7oz dab. One factor that may have affected the fishing was a pod of harbour porpoises that cruised along the match stretch within 10 metres of the shore and were feeding in front of the enthralled anglers!
