Weather blues hamper fishing…
Heavy rain has resulted in large amounts of freshwater in the Humber, effectively killing the fishing. In addition, big whitebait shoals around the river mouth are preoccupying the cod which often feeding in mid water and above anglers’ baits.
In the HCA boat match last Sunday was a real struggle. Better fishing was evidenced later in the match and winner Simon Drayton turned in a strong last hour to record a 23lb 15oz total. Second was Tony Clarke on 21lb 3oz, with Richard Stanley on 20lb 12oz. John Coles had the 6lb 8oz biggest fish just ahead of Chris Banks with one of 6lb 7oz.
The ‘Fur and Feather’ match is scheduled for this Sunday, and there is a meeting the clubroom afterwards.
Appalling weather saw the Les Intress Memorial beach match poorly attended. Only 4 fish were caught by the modest field of 13 anglers. Dave Burr took the biggest fish with a 34cm flounder, while George Smith’s 31 cm flounder took second.
I must finish by wishing everyone a happy Christmas and all the best for the New Year. I think next year will be the year of the politicians messing around with the angling. I fear that they will try and introduce new rules and regulations that will impact heavily on anglers. It will be interesting to see how the new angling body that starts in the New Year will deal with the problems.
