Double-figure cod for Blake

Pete Blake has caught the first double of the season from the beach at East Halton –  a fish of 10lb. There’s no pattern to the fishing as yet however, but there are quite a few fish of 7 – 8lb being reported.

The Humber Bank Wall had been fishing well for good whiting and codling prior last weekend’s second Yorkshire Federation match. Whiting did eventually come on in the match eventually undersize fish were a problem. Top man was North East man Garry Foster on 451cm followed by Gainsborough’s Simon Drayton on 340cm. Bob Gascoigne was third on 329cm.

Humber SAC held a match on the North Wall, where the fishing has been tremendous for big whiting on fish baits. Mark Taylor won the match with 6lb 6½ oz. Grimsby’s Karl Nangle took second with 5lb 11oz, and third went to Adie Cooper on 5lb 2oz.

Reckitts SAC were in Super League action. Hull’s Chris Mack won with a ray, 3 whiting and two codling for 5.87kg. Second was Paul Long on 4.4.kg.

Super League: Trev Wildbore had a codling and 3 whiting for 3.92 kg to claim top spot in another Super League match. Biggest fish was a 3.10 kg thornback ray for Gary Cooper. Gary also had a whiting in his second-placed bag of 3.65kg, while Jamie Foxton was third on 3.24kg. Most fish came from either Cowden or Withernsea North Beach.

Chas Tibble reports on last weekend’s Skegness Pier S.A.C. match: Wrangle’s Alan Steadman was again top man in the latest Skegness Pier Angling Club match held from Wolla Bank, Chapel. Alan added the Hewison Cup to his increasing pile of silverware, with a cod and four whiting catch of 6lb 6oz. His 3lb 8oz cod was also runaway winner of the heaviest ‘round fish’ award. Skegness local Wayne Sumner just missed out on first place again, to fill runner’s up spot with a 10 whiting catch of 5lb 12oz. Wrangle’s Paul Cridland at last overcame a run of blanks to take third spot with 4 whiting for 2lb 14oz, while daughter Michaela won the Ladies prize with an 11oz whiting. Final prize winner was Croxton’s Dave Burr, whose 10oz dab was the only flatfish caught in the match. The Hewison Cup has been fished for by S.P.A.C. members for many years now and Hewison’s Store, Winthorpe Avenue, provided the prizes for this year’s event.

Next S.P.A.C. match: will be held on Sunday 9 Nov from 12 noon until 4pm at Chapel Six Marsh for the A Smith Cup. All S.P.A.C. matches are open events and non-members are welcome to fish. Contact Club Secretary Chas Tibble on 07984 967988 for further details.

Boats: Few boats went out in last weekend’s lumpy conditions. Best catches were on Wednesday when a few boats found cod and whiting on most of the marks. Fish have been of a good stamp for this part of the season. The forecast looks poor for the weekend and the second HCA league match is in doubt.
