Top Irish International boat angler Heiko Dreier followed up an incredible third win in a row in the recent European Boat Angling Championships with victory in the Irish Master Angler Competition fished out of Crosshaven, Co Cork.

82 competitors shared 3700 fish and 24 species over two days of intense competition. The catch-and-return event was fished to a 150mm size rule. Bull huss, conger, pouting, poor cod, pollack, ling, cod, ballan and cuckoo wrasse, dogfish, gurnards, whiting, and scad were among the species taken. The fishing was split into two separate sessions each day, with Heiko showing his class in winning his boat over all four sessions to lift the coveted Master Angler crown for the fourth time in five years.

The current standings for the Irish World Boat team traveling to France in 2009 is Heiko Dreier, Pat Condon, Martin Kennedy, Dermot O’Brien, Myles Howell and Joe Gough.
